The Tour de Steamboat is an amazing 110 mile journey that begins and ends in beautiful Steamboat Colorado. “Climbing for Life!” is a testament to the demands of the ride as well as a title dedicated to people struggling with their health. The Tour de Steamboat was founded as a benefit ride to raise awareness and money for the Sunshine Kids Foundation.

Stage 1 begins in Steamboat and climbs Rabbit Ears Pass for a gain in elevation of 3500 feet ( 1066m). The day is bright with vivid blue skies and the air is crisp and clear. It’s a perfect mountain morning to begin cycling. Warm up those legs and get ready to steadily grind up to the summit and enjoy the start of this amazing adventure!

Stage 2 begins at the summit of Rabbit Ears Pass, 9500 feet asl (896m) and as soon as we’re rolling, we hit 45mph on the descent. We’ll hook onto a few wheels and have fun with pacelines and sprint climbs. And then a final surge to the finish will leave up panting and ready to do more!

We hit stage 3 with enthusiasm! The sun is up, it’s warming and cyclists are on the roads. Conversations erupt as spirits are high and the ride is perfect. Then the wall arrives, Gore Pass and we climb almost 2000′ (610m) and arrive at the summit exhausted. Shake out the lactic acid, ’cause this one’s gonna hurt!

Stage 4 traverses over the Gore Range and is incredibly scenic with open views of green prairies and big blue skies streaked with white linen. Before arriving at the rest, we’ll have to pop up over a little 500 foot climb, then, it’s a fun descent into Yampa Valley and to the finish.

The Yampa Valley is a paradise of green grasses surrounded by wild peaks and mountains. Our 5th and final stage keeps us anaerobic as we battle the evening winds. This is a great interval workout keeping up the tempo in a 2 man paceline. Then, one last climb out of the valley and down into Steamboat and finish the Tour de Steamboat forever reflecting on this life changing adventure!

There are only a few months each year when the ski’s get put in the closet, the studded snow tires are replaced with all weather and the heat and electric bills plummet. Then, the bikes come out storage and trails and roads are filled with enthusiastic cyclists enjoying the long days and warm weather. Anchorage Alaska in July is a 24 hour party designed by the never ending light endured by the sun always above the horizon.

Our journeys take place in and on the outskirts of Anchorage Alaska where we’ll explore the trails and roads and will be swept away with views of sun etched mountains, romantic foggy mists and wonderfully dense forests. This 4.75 hour 3 DVD collection spans over 70 miles of Alaska cycling.

Disk 1: Training to Endure, Anchorage to Eagle River (90 Minutes)

The sun is peeking through the clouds on this day, it’s 65 degrees and the winds are calm. I ask you, is there a better day to ride? Our journey begins in Downtown Anchorage and navigates the city streets until we get onto the Glenn Highway Bike Path. Heading NE, we’ll arrive in Eagle River. This is a very nice city that serves as a suburb to Anchorage and is located in a spectacular glacial valley. Our ride will wind into the valley following Eagle River Road towards the nature center.

Disk 2: XTreme Calorie Burner, Indian to Girdwood (1hr 50mins)

It’s 9:00 PM in Anchorage in July. The weather is a cool and clammy 60 degrees F. It has been raining and a few drizzles are still left. Fog blankets the hill sides and clears into the arm and a romantic mist entwines with the rain forest. Buried in the forest looms mystical creatures native to Alaska that meander throughout. Who knows what is lurking past that next turn?

Disk 3: The Alaskan Sunset Ride (90 Minutes)

The Arctic Bicycle Club’s touring division was gracious enough to allow me to tag along with them on one of their training rides. The ride begins in central Anchorage and moves South towards Rabbit Creek Road which defines the southern-most road of Anchorage and loops past numerous recreational amenities including ski trails, the Anchorage Zoo and the Hill Top Ski area. Dig in and climb 1200 feet to the summit then enjoy a breathtaking descent into the Alaskan summer sunset!

This is an incredibly unique way to train! The entire workout data is on screen at all times allowing you the ability to pace yourself and set goals. Audio mentoring is available on one of the three sound tracks. Once you have figured out how the heads up dash works and you feel comfortable turning the mentor off, slip on your own headphones, listen to your own music and follow the on screen workout and enjoy the views!

Reno is a scenic delight in the summer with the trees and flowers in full bloom contrasting with the dry rocky desertscape. This route is a favorite as it ventures between both landscapes, climbs, descends and ultimately follows the winding Truckee River into downtown. This is a fun ride; the scenery is always changing as the road moves from urban to suburban to rural. The sun is high and the skies are as blue as they can be! Have a great workout!

Many of us die hard hammer heads forget to train in the green. Every ride becomes a hammer fest and despite our swearing to slow it down, our egos take control! Is this just me? The Extreme Calorie Burner series focuses on working in the aerobic zone providing our bodies the opportunity to metabolize fat (aerobic) instead of burning the nutrients in our cells (anaerobic). This does not mean, however, that we can be complacent setting our heart at 69% max cruise control. No! We must make demands of our bodies and then rest them to accomplish the EXTREME part in extreme calorie burning. This ride does exactly that!

This video is complete with the second generation dash and includes some fantastic new features such as a running hill profile and effort profile so you always know what’s ahead. Additional video features below:

    * Speed, elevation and distance data in metric and US standard.
